It’s no secret that I’m not a big fan of MySpace. I have a MySpace, but I’ve told anyone that I know in person and currently talk to in person (as opposed to people I haven’t seen or talked to in years who suddenly pop up on MySpace and want to be your friend so they can read your profile and be nosy and see what you’ve been up to for the last umpteen years), that...

I forgot to do a happy dance about this earlier today. Monday wasn’t my busiest day, but my sales were a lot better than they were for last year’s 100% royalty day. Any extra money is an added bonus, really. Happy dance.
First day of classes. Because I live near an elementary school that is heavily populated by children who have parents who think that they are the most important people in the world, so therefore simple things like traffic rules don’t apply to them (HATE HATE HATE — the parents, not the children, even though the children are being taught that it’s okay to ignore signs as long as...

I’m going to wait and see what kind of photos this beast takes, but I have to say the specs make me drool just a wee bit. I love me some cameras.
Why I Love Endless.com
Yesterday I spent a fair bit of time looking at shoes, specifically these shoes. Probably somewhere around 4-ish, I decided to take the plunge and order them. I’m wearing them RIGHTNOW. I can’t decide if they’re as cute as I thought they’d be, but they came super fast, and they don’t hurt my feet, and they’re tall enough that they keep the hems of my new...
Puppy Games 2008 →
Seriously, how did I miss this one? I LOVE PUPPIES. Looking at the pictures of the puppy athletes, I want to scoop Violet up and put her in my pocket. SO CUTE. Gunner is pretty darn adorable, too. Have I mentioned that I LOVE PUPPIES?
I’m not totally crazy about the semester starting back up tomorrow. (Okay, maybe I’m not totally crazy about having a 9am class.) I am, however, excited that I will likely get out of class early enough on Wednesday to be able to come home and watch the epic battle between Livan “Cheeseburger” Hernandez and Tim “Strikeout Jesus” Lincecum.
No, really, I’m...
Over the last couple of weeks, this blog has become decidedly Olympics-centric. Therefore, it goes without saying that I’m already feeling a bit of Olympics withdrawal here. Sure, I lost a little interest once swimming, gymnastics, and then baseball ended, but I still enjoyed being able to turn on NBC or one of their other cable channels at pretty much any given time of the day to find a...
I’m not really an NBA fan. I’ve made plenty of snarky comments about Kobe Bryant. However, I have to say it was nice to see the guys on Team USA, including Kobe, look genuinely happy and thrilled to win a gold medal today. Watching that game was pretty fun.
Now I can go back to disliking NBA basketball.
Radio only today. That means a lot of the things we’ve told you today could...
– Giants broadcaster, Duane Kuiper, on the radio today
I think it’s awesome that more than half the country (i.e. those of us not in the Eastern time zone), actually saw the postgame coverage of the U.S.-Argentina basketball game before the game itself had starting airing here. Goodness knows it was much more important to see Meredith Vieira and friends than to show an actual Olympic event live to those of us on the left side of the country...

IOC orders investigation into He Kexin's age →
I think it’s interesting that the gymnast with the missing tooth, Deng Linlin, isn’t ever mentioned in these articles. He Kexin does look super young, but I think Deng Linlin looks even younger.
#3!
Okay, so that stupid extra innings tiebreaker rule is still stupid, but at least the U.S. managed to pull off a win. It was pretty crazy how the U.S. only had something like two or three hits over ten innings, but as soon as they start an inning with two runners on, they exploded offensively. (Including good ol’ Nate Schierholtz!) I guess that’s the intended effect of the rule, but...
Happiness is a steamed barbeque pork bun.
Also, the U.S.-Japan baseball game is going into the 11th inning. Here comes the stupid extra innings tiebreaker rule. Ugh.
Wait, so Joe Magrane thinks that if the U.S. doesn’t get the gold medal in baseball, they’ll take their silver or bronze medal and just shove it in the back of the closet? I understand the whole national pride thing and wanting to come out on top because baseball is the national pastime, but seriously? Then again, this goes back to my logic that if I was an Olympic athlete, I would...
Olympic baseball!
I’ve been following most of the games that the U.S. baseball team has been playing. (Uber nerd that I am, I’ve even watched some of the games online.) The games have been really, really good. Right now their game against Japan is on. I could totally cheat and look up the results online, but I’m glad I’ve resisted doing that so far. In the top of the 8th, it’s...

If you spray Herbal Essences’ Dangerously Straight Finishing Spray in your eye, it hurts. A lot. Burns, in fact.
I don’t recommend doing this right before you have to go to work, or ever, really.
It’s only 10:30 in the morning here, but I’m already having one of my best sales day on iStockphoto since, well, probably at the height of the Christmas rush last year. It’s days like these that make me daydream about quitting my job and living off of my illustrations alone. I’m still a little way away from that, but it doesn’t stop me from spending my days...
Note to Tim
“Wow” is also not helpful gymnastics commentary.
I’ve decided why I really don’t like the gymnastics commentary provided by the three-headed monster of Tim, Elfie, and Al on NBC. After Alicia Sacramone’s vault, Tim says, “Good, not great.” DUDE, EXPLAIN WHY. To us non-gymnast peons, stuff like that looks darn good. Maybe if I knew what I was supposed to be seeing, I’d also think, “Good, not...
This is totally one of my absolute favorite moments from the Olympics so far. I loved it when they showed this video to Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson.
(Okay, pretend there’s a video of Bela Karolyi spazzing out while watching Nastia Liukin’s floor exercise here.)
For the first few days of the Olympics, the “Top Stories” section of my iGoogle page was good about not giving me spoilers. However, I just had to minimize the darn thing, because it spoiled me, again, about the swimming results. NOT COOL.
I just saw a commercial for the upcoming season of The Hills, which said it premieres on Monday, and yeah, I got just a wee bit excited.
That show is like crack, I swear.
I was thinking of going to a Giants game next week on one of my days off. Summer day games are nice. But now that Pablo Sandoval has officially been called up to join the team, I think I definitely need to go. If you’re a Giants fan, today is like Christmas. Jose Castillo designated for assignment, and Sandoval, Travis Ishikawa, and Ryan Rohlinger (all fully capable of hitting home runs)...

This is old, but oh, Svetlana, I miss you.
Wow. Those Chinese female gymnasts are totally twelve-years-old.
Seeing that the fall semester is starting in less than three weeks (I’M SO NOT READY), I thought I would take a look to see what books I might need for the upcoming semester. Unlike past semesters where I forgot all about books until the first day when the professor assigned a huge chunk of reading for the next class (I am so glad I am not taking two three-hour art history classes back to...
Now whenever I read Garfield in the comics, I mentally remove Garfield himself from each strip, like Garfield Minus Garfield. I think it really does make the strip a whole lot more interesting.
